The UK team competing in the Sigep Bread Cup brought home the Production Award for producing the most products each day of the four-day competition, within a five-hour period.

The proceeds from the sale of the products were donated to a school building project in Kenya.

The UK team, made up of team captain David Mizon, Garry Hindley, Ian Jones and Stephen McGregor, competed against Australia, the USA, Russia, Slovenia, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Israel in the contest, held at the Sigep exhibition in Rimini, Italy last month, which was won by the USA.

Mizon said the team was delighted to be bringing a trophy back to the UK and to have raised so much money for a worthy cause and for creating greater awareness of UK bakery on an international stage.

The selection round for the 2012 competition, organised by the Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees, will be held at Sheffield College on 11 and 12 April 2011. For details, contact davidmizon@yahoo.co.uk.
