South Wales-based Welsh Hills Bakery has won a deal to supply Spanish retailer El Corte Inglés with its Lovemore gluten-free biscuits, cake slices and pastries.

The agreement was struck after the company exhibited with other Welsh food and drink producers at Paris-based trade show Sial in October, under the Welsh Assembly Government’s Inter-national Business Wales (IBW) and True Taste banners. This was followed up with further assistance from IBW and export organisation Food From Britain.

The gluten-free products will be sold in 35 El Corte Inglés stores throughout Spain, which regularly hold in-store promotions of British food. "We have previously taken part in El Corte Inglés’ British promotions, but this is the first time we have secured a year-round deal to supply them with our products through our Spanish distributor El Granero," said Ian Douglass, sales and marketing director

The Lovemore range available in Spain includes chocolate chip cookies, cherry shortcake, puff pastry straws, puff pastry palmiers, digestives, lemon cake slices and chocolate brownie slices.

Welsh Hills also exports to the Middle East and plans to target retailers in France, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.
