Sandwich brand Subway has updated 300 stores with its new Metropolitan décor.

According to the chain, the “upscale décor enhances the brand, elevates the customer experience and allows the brand to compete with upscale competitors”.

The new décor is available for new stores and for those stores that are remodelling.

Locations include:Holt Road, Cromer, Norfolk; Hepworth Retail Park, Swadlincote; Lakeside Business Park, Portsmouth, Hampshire; The Moor, Sheffield; Junction 1 Retail Park, Leicester Road, Rugby, Warwickshire; Applegreen Petrol Station, Woodbridge Road East, Ipswich; Student Union Food Court, Middlesex University; Brunel University, Uxbridge; Bristol Airport, Budgens Supermarket, Cheddar, Somerset; Euro Garages, Spring Lane, Preston.

The news follows the opening of a new outlet within the Middlesex University Student Union on 1 October.

The store is owned by Subway’s corporate partner, The Compass Group.

Trevor Haynes, area development manager for Subway UK and Ireland, said: “This is a fantastic partnership for Compass and the Subway brand. Students are a key target market for us and, with the simplicity of operations and limited waste, The Compass Group is providing a new offering that works well within the student union. High sales in the first week further demonstrate the success of this store and we look forward to many more to follow.”

The brand said the store opening further highlights the “adaptability of the size and physical layout of Subway stores”. Non-traditional locations, such as within universities, hospitals, convenience stores or on petrol forecourts, have been recognised as a key growth area for Subway.

Currently, there are more than 300 Subway stores open or in development in non-traditional locations.
