Family bakery Dorringtons, manufacturer Coles Puddings, and flour miller Marriage’s, all helped Heston Blumental create a giant Christmas pudding for his latest TV series.

Broadcast on Channel 4 on Wednesday 19 December, Heston’s Fantastical Christmas saw the TV chef on a mission to create the latest festive pudding ever.

He visited Essex for the final episode of Heston’s Fantastical Food, a series in which he creates amazing supersized versions of meals and treats, in a bid to bring back the wonder and excitement of childhood food.

In the festive edition Blumental set out to make the ultimate supersized Christmas dinner, to be enjoyed by a group of adults who normally have to work on Christmas Day. He wanted the Christmas pudding so be so big that people could step inside it.

He drove a cement mixer around to collect ingredients, visiting Dorringtons bakery in Great Dunmow, a long standing customer of Marriage’s, to collect half a tonne of Marriage’s flour, assisted by Kevin Theobald, Marriage’s territory sales manager.

Later in the show, the team at Coles Puddings, Saffron Walden, baked blocks of Christmas pudding mixture to attach to the enormous mesh structure on which the pudding was based.
