Meeting the specification for baking a quality loaf will be one of the topics of this year’s Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) Milling Wheat Conference.
Held in association with the National Association of British and Irish Flour Millers (Nabim), the event will feature speakers including: Sarah Clarke, of agricultural consultancy ADAS, on managing wheat crops for quality; milling wheat supplier James Price, of Perdiswell Farm, on growing for the market; and Philip Darke, of Camgrain, on capturing quality through storage.
For the first time, this year’s conference will include a panel of millers from across the industry who will discuss their requirements.
“AHDB knows it is vital that UK farmers remain competitive and are well prepared to face future challenges,” said AHDB strategy director Dr Martin Grantley-Smith.
“Working with our industry partners in milling, agronomy and exporting, we can support farmers to find and maximise opportunities for quality milling wheat and build resilience.”
The conference includes the presentation of the YEN Wheat Quality Award by George Marriage, director of W&H Marriage & Sons and president of the Nabim executive committee. Sponsored by Nabim, the award recognises achievements in growing quality milling wheat.
The AHDB Milling Wheat Conference 2019 is being held on 26 February at Wyboston Lake Resorts, Bedfordshire.
