Following increasing demand from customers for pre-portioned cakes, baker Noreen Salador devised CakePortioner, a wire portioner now in production with worldwide patents pending.

Developed in the UK by CakePortioner, a division of Posh Nosh Innovations, the product has an ultra-thin cutting wire, which can portion 60-100 fresh round cakes or desserts, of a variety of sizes, and from two to 16 portions per hour, said the firm. The machine is simple to use: the cake is placed on the turntable, the number of portions selected, and the start button pushed. The 0.3mm wire will then cut through the cake, lift up, and the turntable will then rotate ready for the next slice.

CakePortioner will be on display at Bakers’ Fair Autumn in October.
