The management team of Berwyn Bakery has formed a new company, The Cake Crew, to purchase the assets of the bakery, saving around 70 jobs, after it was placed into administration earlier this month.

Berwyn Bakery, which was the second-largest employer in the town of Bala, Gwynedd in North Wales, had been trading for more than 100 years. The Cake Crew MD Glenn Bancroft said the bakery’s rural location meant it was key to the local economy and he was delighted to be able to retain the business and staff.

The bakery produces predominantly own-label cakes, including cupcakes, muffins, round cakes and gingerbread, which it supplies to supermarket retailers and the foodservice industry.
