Administrators invited bids for the Harvestime (2005) business, saying that they hoped to get the sale of the business wrapped up by Christmas. Six potential buyers were interested, they said. The Walsall bakery was continuing to trade.

Asda stopped baking organic bread in-store due to high wastage levels and the rigours of meeting organic accreditation standards. It retained a bought-in organic range.

British Bakeries was fined £7,000 in court after an own-label loaf it supplied to supermarket Somerfield was found to contain two dead mice. The disturbing incident took place in September 2004, following a mouse infestation at British Bakeries’ Avonmouth bakery.

A restructure started at Hartlepool-based cakes supplier Bonne Bouche, with the departure of its MD.

Airdrie-based the Bon Bon Cake Shop pulled off a double at the 2006 World Scotch Pie Championship. Owner Robert Cowan was named World Scotch Pie Cham-pion for 2006, and scooped the top prize in the bridie section. Orders went up 50% the next day, he said.
