The executive assistant to the chief executive of Greggs is to take part as a contestant in the new series of The Apprentice, with the first episode to be screened on BBC1 next Tuesday (10 May) at 9pm.

Helen Louise Milligan, executive assistant to Ken McMeikan, has had a varied career, studying law at university, working part-time as a waitress and later managing a restaurant, before she landed the job at Greggs.

The 30-year-old has described herself as “calm, loyal and tenacious” and, in her audition video for The Apprentice, she said she doesn’t think there is anything she has set out to do that she hasn’t achieved. “I get everything I want. I like making businesses money,” she said, adding that she views her career as a 24/7 role, and her “life”, not just a job.

She said that although there may be other good candidates, she doesn’t think anyone else will beat her, based on hard-work, guts and determination.

McMeikan commented: “We are all very proud of Helen for being selected for The Apprentice. She is a fantastic individual and extremely talented. Everyone at Greggs is rooting for her and we wish her every success in the show.”

Instead of winning a job with a six-figure salary at one of Lord Sugar’s businesses, this year the winner and their business idea will found the basis of a partnership with Lord Sugar, with an investment to the value of £250,000.
