Handmade expands its premises
The Handmade Cake Company in Maidenhead has moved to new premises in Gardner Road. The company specialises in round cakes and traybakes and is hoping to expand its enterprise at the new site.
"We have closed down the old unit, but we're not all moved into the new unit yet," said managing director Parry Hughes-Morgan. The new premises will enable the company to create individual portions of cake, flow-wrapped tray bakes and loaf cakes.
The move will also enable it to offer more bespoke cakes to its customers - for example, the ability to make carrot cake, traditionally made as a round cake, in different shapes or sizes for people who "love it, but want it bigger", said Hughes-Morgan.
Additional jobs have been created by the move, fulfilling the company's desire to be more flexible and offer more choice.
When the company first came to Maidenhead, 20 years ago, it was based in a small premises of around 1,500sq ft. Over the years it has moved and added on neighbouring units, but even-tually came to realise that it had "run out of space". It has been supplying coffee shops, cafés and caterers with its products for 25 years.
