Night work in bakeries
 - Published:  29 February, 2008

Britain has repeated efforts to procure legislation prohibiting night work in bakeries.

The position of the public: The public will suffer most by the prohibition of night work. They will not get first-class bread in the morning. This has caused the press here to discuss this question, and from this side only is the prohibition criticised.

Prohibition in various countries: As a reason for the prohibition of night work in Argentina, it was stated that this was international, and had been passed by a majority of 81 votes against 26 at Geneva.

Nevertheless, of all the countries that belong to the International Labour Bureau only six have ratified the prohibition of night work. These countries, scarcely less than 10%, are Bulgaria, Cuba, Luxembourg, Estonia, Finland and Spain.
