Carr's Milling Industries is to sponsor the World Marmalade Festival, held in February. This will mark Paddington Bear's 50th birthday and is designed to give "the traditional marmalade sandwich a make-over", said Caroline Dale of Carrs Breadmaker.

Bakers have been asked to design a new sandwich filling incorporating marmalade. The top three sandwich fillings will be taste-tested by visitors to the festival at Dalemain Country House, Ullswater, on 7-10 February.

The winner, as voted by the public, will win a weekend break for two in the Lake District.
