Cornish pasty maker Proper Cornish has established a Taste of Cornwall café at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC).

Cricket fans and players visiting the club can now tuck into Cornish pasties and cheese and onion pasties, priced at £3.50 each, washed down with a pint of Tribute Ale from fellow sponsor St Austell Brewery.

Following its annual sponsorship of GCCC fast bowler Liam ‘Pasty’ Norwell, who grew up in Redruth, the company was approached by the GCCC catering team, Centerplate, and invited to put its stamp on the new café and museum area.

The Cornwall-inspired area features a large map of Cornwall, pinpointing the sponsors’ headquarters and featuring a wall mural with the theme Pies, Pasties, Players.

It is projected that the café will sell 2,000 pasties this year alone.

Mark Muncey, marketing director  of Proper Cornish, said: “We are excited to be linking up with St Austell Brewery and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club to give supporters the true taste of Cornwall. Our principal sponsorship of Liam Norwell has captured the hearts of the supporters. Powering Liam with our pasties has helped deliver his maiden first class century. We hope the supporter enjoy the new café surroundings.”

Earlier this year, Muncey provided British Baker with a blog on his trip to Shanghai in China, taking the taste of Cornwall to the Asian market.
