The event took place on 27 January at the Red Lion pub in Barnes, where chefs from across the country were challenged to create the best sausage roll. Each chef produced 12 rolls, and those left over after judging were auctioned off to raise over £400 for Shooting Star Chase, the children’s hospice charity.
Second place went to Ollie Couillaud of The Corner Restaurant & Champagne Bar, Selfridges, with his The Lemmy (sage, garlic, onion and Jack Daniels) roll, while Jade Clarke, head chef at The Hinds Head Hotel, Aldermaston, was third with her venison, wild mushroom and pickled blackberry concept.
Now in its fourth year, this year’s competition was judged by food critic Kate Spicer, Masterchef 2015 finalist Emma Spitzer, Eat Judge on The Big Allotment Challenge Thane Prince, and head chef at Bonhams Restaurant, Tom Kemble.
British Baker went along to sample to atmosphere and interview the victorious Harrison.
