The National Cupcake Championships are nearly here as National Cupcake Week (14 to 20 September) kicks off next week.

Monday will see our 60 finalists gather at British Bakels’ headquarters in Bicester for the live final of the competition. A team of judges will assess the 60 cupcakes left and mark them on appearance, originality and, most importantly, taste.

Check out our finalists here. Around 60 bakers have made it to the last stage across six categories: Classic; Made with Chocolate; Made with Alcohol; Free From; Seasonal; and Children’s. The winners will be revealed on the day.

While our contestants wait for the judges’ decision, event sponsor Barry Callebaut is putting on two demonstrations worth £300 per person. Guests will learn more about decoration techniques using chocolates and transfer as well as a quick and easy way to temper chocolate.

National Cupcake Week offers great business opportunities for all bakers, not just those in our Championships. Free POS is available to download to help bakers spread the word and fill their shops with cupcake fanatics.

There are plenty of ways bakers can make the most of National Cupcake Week, from offering a Flavour of the Day, multi-buy deals or just catching customers’ attention with stunning window and counter displays.

Let us know what you plan to do to celebrate National Cupcake Week and check back next week to see who was triumphant in the Championships final.

The event is sponsored by Barry Callebaut, online ordering service Hello and… and hosted by Bakels.
