Warburtons bread made its debut in the Channel Islands this week, with a roll-out programme to follow.

Its full range of products, including breads, rolls and thins, will be sold in more than 50 stores in Guernsey, including Iceland, Foodhall, Checkers Xpress, Forest Stores and other independent outlets, according to British Baker’s sister title The Grocer.

Channel Island foodservice provider Cimandis will handle the distribution.

“Warburtons sells the most popular bread in Britain and we are delighted we’ll be distributing its products,” said managing director David Chalk.

The company has grown from its north-west heartland to become the biggest bread brand in the UK, with sales of £755.7m, up 6.8% year on year. Kingsmill is its nearest rival with sales of £422.2m [Nielsen 52w/e 4 January].

The family-owned baker has struggled to expand out of the UK market and pulled out of France last year, having exited Eastern Europe a year earlier.
