More than 200 new employees have been taken on at Gunstones bakery and chilled foods factory, since June, as demand for flatbreads increases.
The 2 Sisters Food Group site at Dronfield, near Sheffield, has taken on staff in roles across the business, from section leaders to process controllers.
The firm said that as consumers switched to more fashionable lines, such as sushi and flatbreads, the business had responded by upping its staff numbers to cope with the surge in demand.
Veepul Patel, divisional managing director, said: “Summer is traditionally a peak time for our chilled foods operation, but this year we have seen a unprecedented demand for categories such as sushi and sandwiches from our customers.
“It’s great that we can draw from a pool of talent in the local area to meet demand, at the same time as giving the local economy a boost in continuing tough times.”
The Gunstones site was acquired by 2 Sisters from Northern Foods in April 2011, and currently employs more than 1,400 staff. The chilled factory manufactures sandwiches, rolls and sushi, while the bakery manufactures a variety of bread rolls, hot cross buns, iced buns and garlic bread.
Earlier this year 2 Sisters announced 100 new jobs were to be recruited for at its Solway Foods business, which supplies retail customers including Tesco and Costa.
