The first recipe book from Bath-based bakery The Thoughtful Bread Company has been named as the 3rd best baking book at the Gourmand Cookbook Awards in Paris.

Bread Revolution, published one year ago, was co-authored by Duncan Glendinning, owner of the bakery business, along with head baker Patrick Ryan.

The awards have been running for more than 15 years, and saw 170 countries represented across a range of categories.

Having made it into the final five in the bread/baking category, Glendinning said he was delighted to hear that they had taken “a respectable third” place.

Glendinning said: “You only need to look at the other names competing to see what fine company we are in, and as relative unknowns to have received such an accolade is a huge boost for us.

“It also further underlines how bread is on the up and we are exciting to be riding the crest of the Real Bread wave."

In November last year the bakery successfully raised £55k in investment from an online fundraising scheme called Crowdcube, which enabled them to open their first bakery shop and school in Bath this winter.
