Starbucks has been named the second most prolific brand on social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

Pipped to the number one spot by the Innocent fruit smoothie drinks brand, the international coffee chain was included in the top 10 of the Social Brands 100 list. Kraft-owned confectionery firm Cadbury was ranked seventh on the table, which rates companies based the performance of a brand’s online activity and how they interacted with consumers.

The list, which was compiled by social media monitoring service Brandwatch and social branding agency Headstream, included brands nominated by Twitter users and put through an independent judging process. It looked at social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, foursquare and Google+, as well as brand-owned forums, websites and blogs.

Other firms that ranked on the UK social media league table included online bakery training school and online resource Virtuous Bread, which came in at 29th position. Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s was positioned half way up the table at 50th, while Walker’s Crisps was ranked 89th.

GlaxoSmithKline’s Ribena brand came in at 96th on the social media league table and Tropicana was positioned two places behind at 98th.
