We have never ceased to be impressed with the game itself, for no other game offers the consolation of being able to break up your clubs and scatter them around the 18th green. No other game sees so many upflung arms in sheer despair and no other game hears the strangled cries of the tortured: "Never again!"When the compilers of an encyclopaedia asked a veteran why the game was called golf, he merely said, with great sagacity, that if it had any other name, it would be either obscene or blasphemous.

It is not often that the editorial eye becomes focused on the game of golf, but when we hear that a Manchester baker and a Midland farmer have bought a whole golf course, we are considerably impressed. According to a news item, they have purchased a golf course in North Wales.
